As you know, my story was accepted for publication. I sent my manuscript via email the very same day. In a whirlwind of emails, illustrations and design discussions, in less than twelve months, I held in my hand the very first printed copy of Angel Wings, Faery Dust and Other Magical Things: A Story of Witches, Warlocks and Such.
Naturally, the work has not ended there. I am my best marketer. Only I can truly know the passion, hopes and the ideals that have gone into writing this book. As such, I am the best one to spread the news about it.
The journey will continue. At the moment I am illustrating my third story (no hints yet...all in good time), I am still teaching Math, Art and ICT to high school students as well as the VERY valid and important skills of kindness, understanding, respect and the ability to dream.
My ego is still trying to sabotage me on occasion, however, I think I have it beaten for the moment.
Success is a frightening thing sometimes. How successful is too successful? What determines success? Who keeps count? Especially when it is in the Australian nature to be a bit sceptical of successful people or of anyone who puts themselves forward to be noticed. The "Tall Poppy Syndrome" we call it.
The beautiful thing about writing these books though, is that I feel so strongly and so passionately, that what the world needs more of is acts of kindness. If people could listen to each other, react with compassion and understanding to the problems of others, relieve their friends and families (or even complete strangers) of their burdens once in a while, say things that are kind and positive, be optimistic and operate from a space of love and caring...well then, there has to be a positive change in the world around us.
I'd love everyone to try just once, to make the day of a complete stranger in a positive and non-invasive way. Smile, leave a bigger tip than necessary, say "thank you" and "you're appreciated" more often, pay the toll on a road for the car behind you as well. You might just be surprised at the impact you have on their day. If they react negatively or aggressively to your kindness, forgive them with the understanding they have further to go on the journey than you do and act kindly again the next opportunity you have.
The law of the universe is threefold. Simply stated, whatever energy you put into the world, you will receive back in three times the amount.
