Regaining serenity

I hope that by now, having read a few of these posts, it has become apparent to you, beautiful beings, that while I may listen, have faith, believe  and walk a path of love and forgiveness as best I know how...I am also, undeniably human into the bargain *smile.

There have been so many times when I have "lost" my connection with the divine (in other words, too preoccupied with what's going on and buying into the negative to listen) and when these moments come upon me, I feel as lost as though I didn't know there were angels guiding my every step. *sigh*

At least now, I can remember in those moments, that the team is still there, will ALWAYS be there, that no matter how lonely, I am never alone.

All the platitudes in the world don't help though in a moment of helplessness, of heart aching loneliness or of extreme grief and pain.  Yep...I have these moments too...human remember *smile*

Connecting with nature has always been one of the things that has helped me to ease the ache, or to regain some semblance of balance within my soul. Even before I realised that my heart and the divine, were constantly giving me the information I needed to walk the path I choose and to be happy, I sought out nature when I felt particularly aggrieved  Sitting by the beach, watching the waves continue their endless march in and out, sitting in a garden under a tree, walking through a particularly old, and nurturing part of rain forest, or just sitting outside on the grass...all of these things have helped me immeasurably, and many others besides.

Regardless of what creed you believe  or whether you think there are a divine team of beings guiding your steps or a conscious universe acting in accordance of your intentions, nature can have a healing impact when you feel lost and dishevelled and a little afraid.

Try it out when you are hurting. Go and sit in the garden and let your thoughts roam and wander where they will. Sit silently, or talk, or sob, or whatever takes your heart in the moment. Look at your surroundings or sit as though seeing through the environment. None of this matters. Just being surrounded by nature has the ability to heal; to restore some sense of calm and serenity.

For me, I always take pen and paper with me when I seeks out nature's healing comfort. Inevitably, as I sit and feel the hurt drain from me, and a calm peace sooth me, I start to hear my heart again, and when my heart is whispering to me, I make sure I am taking notes.

Oh so many diversions....

You know, I often picture myself, as I was sitting there with the Archangel Michael, and we were discussing this journey, and the contract I would sign...often I ask myself whether I REALLY read that contract or whether I was just happily wrapped up in the moment...*sigh*

One of the things I have often pondered along this journey, is why it is I so often get totally wrapped up in "stupid" stuff?????? I mean really, I KNOW and have remembered/learnt all this stuff, and yet, I am often caught up and buying into stuff that just doesn't matter in the scheme of things...you know?

Life, the human life we lead, is a distraction and diversion to keep us happy and laughing while the "real" work gets done. *smile* To me, the real work is the business of beautifully shining my light on the world as I walk through it; to be the best human me I can be; to love unconditionally and forgive instantly...everything else...a pleasant diversion! well...that's what the contract said I'm sure *wry grin*

Sometimes I just have to laugh at my very humanness as I get caught up in what someone said about me, or a perceived insult/slight, or any other day to day thing, which in the long run means nothing to me.

Other times, when the moment has been far more terrible than someone being catty to me, I have had to remind myself to believe and keep knowing that this moment will pass and it too is just a diversion.

Using this thought pattern helps me to get through some of those more...shall we say..."challenging" moments.

We are powerful co-creators in the life we lead...I mean sure, we signed a contract, but that will never be more than we can handle, we knew it when we signed it...but if the diversion which is currently my life is not fun and pleasant, then I get to change those details, I'm telling myself to change something, move on, be different! OK then, message heard self *smile*

The power of a choice

I felt the overwhelming urge today to rant a little bit...to let loose on a powerful surge of dissatisfaction, misunderstandings, injustice (as I perceived it), angst and a whole list of other things. As this diatribe was on my tongue and in my finger tips I stopped  I didn't feel right about unleashing that type of energy, and I definitely didn't feel right about giving more power and energy to situations that I certainly didn't feel appreciative of.

I did what I always do in such situations, I went and sat outside in my garden. Lately I feel I may possibly have worn a groove in my seat out there *sigh*

Slowly, the anger subsided, leaking out of me and into the plants for them to disperse. As this started happening, I started to hear the things, I suspect, my divine team had been trying to tell me all day *wry grin* I started to get flashes of insight on controlling what I could and releasing what I could not control. I felt that overwhelming urge to surrender the whole situation to the divine...slowly, but surely, the need to unleash a diatribe of invectives passed me by.

Frustration led me to this place, relaxing in my tranquil garden in silence and without thinking, released me from taking actions out of this frustration.

I was reminded again that NONE of us are victims, we ALL have the ability to make choices. We are co-creators in our own reality (the other creators of course being the divine) and that there is power in the ability to choose. While I did NOT choose the circumstances I was put in today, I did choose my response. While I may not have chosen to be confronted and judgemental about what I experienced (in the short term response) I did choose not to give in to the impulse to take action on that judgement or to hurt another because of it. While I did not choose the actions of others, I (eventually) did choose not to let their choices spoil my inner peace and calm.

We were given the power to choose in order to release us from the trap of judgement and anger, and to give us the power of co-creation in our reality.

Can you be faithless?

I know right? This seems like the strangest and most confusing topic for a blog relating to a spiritual journey...let me explain.

One of the lessons I have found the most difficult to learn, on fact one I am still having to remind myself of and remember constantly, is about respecting my own boundaries.

Growing up, I learnt the lesson that "to serve others in humility" was the path to goodness. That to do things that only serve yourself is vain, selfish and the path to REALLY bad things happening. This "lesson" was taught to me through my experiences with the world around me by friends, by family, by compete strangers. I have to consciously act against conditioning now to do something because I feel the need to; to be by myself, to take time out, to make art instead of do reporting, to take the day off when I'm sick rather than forcing myself to go into work and struggle through the day, to say "no" when people are asking too much of me, and all of those types of things rather than doing things because I feel obligated, because I feel like I am letting others down, because I worry that they see me as selfish etc, etc.

So when I say,  "Can you be faithless?" what i really mean is, can you honour and respect yourself and your boundaries, even if it means "braking faith" with someone else?

The reason I feel this is one of THE most important lessons I have so far encountered on my journey is this...when I don't respect myself or my boundaries and needs, I am teaching others how to treat me, and telling the universe that it is fine for others to ignore me.

The MOMENT I realised this, I began retraining years of conditioning out of me! No way did I want to teach others that they can do whatever they want, speak to me in whatever way they choose and ignore my needs and boundaries at whim...and yet, this is exactly what I had been doing.

Now, I am faithless; I do what I need to do to respect myself, my boundaries and my needs. In doing so, people treat me with more respect than previously, they no longer ask me for more than I can/choose to give, and if they do, and I say "no" I am respected for that, not shunned. In retraining myself, I am also actively retraining others in the manner I expect to be treated, after all, no one is obligated to treat me better than I do myself.

Thoughts

Often I have spoken about the use of words and the fact that our words have power. This holds true in SO many ways. The way we voice things has an energetic impact on our "reality". Focusing and voicing all the seemingly negative aspects of our lives, brings about more negativity...it is the law of attraction...the universe will provide more of what you think about and speak about the most.

On this point as well though, I felt it's necessary today to specifically mention that our thoughts are the same as words to the universe and to the divine.

Our thoughts and our capacity for co-creating are so powerful, in fact, that they have the ability to make or break us.

Most of the things that cause us pain, do so because of the way we think about them.

I know that seems really dumb...after all you can't help thinking about some things, especially things that have a massive impact on you personally...well I know I can't stop thinking about things like that.

The message I got today though clarified this concept for me a little more. It is not thinking about something that makes it painful, it is the WAY we think about it that can be harmful for us.

Thoughts are choice and are subject to our free will. No one can control what and how you think about things, although some people may try to influence those thoughts. *smile* It is one place where we are totally free.

I am practising the art of distancing myself from negativity in my thoughts. So while I may still recall the events of a seemingly negative moment, by changing my thought pattern and viewing the event in my thoughts with detachment and without getting caught up in blaming, accusing, judging or anything else like that (remember I said I am practising) I am finding it easier and easier to move past difficult moments.

Needing approval

It is through trying to meet someone else's approval or a set of standards or some other arbitrary thing that I have MOST often found myself floundering and in some sort of difficulty. The need for approval is a behaviour I learnt early on in life, and in fact it is something we are conditioned to from an early age. I never wanted to be in trouble, I never wanted to disappoint people or let them down, and therefore, it has taken me a long time to figure out that it was/is often this need for another person's approval that has led me to paths I may not have otherwise trod.

This concept, this freedom is something that is new to me. So I'm sorry, no profound words of wisdom yet on exactly how to release the need for the approval of others...I have only just recently myself, remembered that this can be so freeing.

In seeking the approval of others we forget something really important...WE are our own best judge of what will suit our journey and what will not, and that information is already inside each of us.

The bits that bring no joy

As a teacher, there are a few things I really DON'T enjoy abut the job I am required to do. For instance, I don't like marking, playground duty, staff meetings just for the sake of staff meetings and a few other systemic things like that. There are also quite a few things I DON'T like about being the responsible adult in the house either. For instance, I don't like laundry, dishes and several other household jobs that take me away from stuff I would rather be doing.

However, they are a requirement of the institution I work for, and of being the responsible adult, and must be done. I have often viewed these things as a chore; a boring and tedious part of my contract (for which I obviously didn't read the fine print well enough for  *smile*)

Today, tired from a school function last night, I was looking down the barrel of a double whammy *laugh* My house looks somewhat like a hurricane has blown through since I have been doing housework avoidance for a week or two, AND the pile of marking I had to do made Everest look like a mole hill for exactly the same reason. A slight exageration on both counts, but you get my point.

Already tired, the temptation to just walk out into my garden and read a book all day was almost too tempting!

"OK," I told myself, "Big girl pants on and get on with the job!" as well as all of those other things you tell yourself to attempt a task.

I started with a few bits here and there, picked up the dishes and stacked them ("Nah, that's all I can handle of that job."), looked at the laundry on the line, ("Nah, too hot to go out there now") ordered my marking in class groups, ("OK, done with that too") and it seemed I was doing an awful lot of stuffing around, and not a lot of work. I couldn't seem to stop though. I would mark three or four papers, then go and make myself a coffee. While waiting for the kettle, I would wash a few dishes, challenge being, "how many can I wash before the kettle boils?". I would take a five minute break, then mark a few more papers, do a few more dishes, take three things off the washing line and fold them and so on and so on.

All of a sudden, I realised what I had been doing...I had made the whole process a game! How many dishes before the kettle boils, how many clothes off the line before my feet start to burn on the hot concrete (and no, it didn't occur to me to put shoes on, that would have wrecked the game *laugh*), how many papers can I mark before the next ad break on T.V. and so on.

I was also breaking these mammoth seeming tasks into VERY small bite sized chunks.

By 2pm this afternoon, I had finished ALL the jobs, both for housework and for school...yehah!...and Oh my goodness, how did that happen?????

After I finished celebrating the fact that I was done, I did go and sit out in the garden to relax and enjoy a cup of tea. It all of a sudden occured to me (as so many things do as I sit in the garden) that sometimes we do the parts without joy, in order to be able to experience the amazing bits! I couldn't be a teacher if I refused to mark papers or any of those other things...and I LOVE all the other things about teaching. This does not mean that the less joyful parts have to be boring and feel like a chore.

Finding the joy in all that we do, leads to us being able to quickly move onto the things that make our heart sing!

Another message on stillness

I went back to work today after a two week holiday, the alarm went off, I got up and slipped straight back into the routine I have followed for years, went in to work and started on the day's "stuff" quietly observing all of those around me for some reason.

There was plenty of discussion on what each had done on the holidays, but under all of that there was an almost unnoticed tension. I wondered at that, but soon dismissed it as, "not my job" (there is an earlier post on this if you would like more information) to solve and went about my day.

As I relaxed this afternoon in my garden courtyard with a cup of tea, it all of a sudden occurred to me what this "tension" might be.

Humans, as a gross generality, tend to fill their lives up with busy, busy, busy "stuff". At times it almost seems like a competition as to who can be the most busy and fill up their calenders with "busy" stuff. Today, being the first day back for all of us, with not a lot to plan and resource and all of those "things" teachers do before we actually work into a classroom, well there was tension because of the lack of business...what a contradiction right?

I think sometimes there is a tendency to thrive on the drama of being busy and being "swamped" with work and being "run off our feet" that when that is absent...there is this subtle tension as though something is wrong or missing. I am just as guilty of this as anyone else at times.

I took this today as another reminder to embrace stillness...

When we are scurrying around like ants in a nest, going here, being there, the "noise" of the world can drown out our inner guidance. Take a moment to slow down and embrace stillness.

With a heart full of gratitude

You know that when we each look at the world, it is through our very own, unique set of filters. Our filters are determined by our experiences, our perceptions, our innate personality and our choices. There is nothing wrong with having filters, in fact, they can be quite useful; for example, I choose the filter of positivity and delight as a lense through which I view the world. However, knowledge of our own particular filters is also quite useful.

Yesterday was one of those days where I was looking through a filter of frustration..... as you can imagine, nothing flowed very smoothly for me yesterday, I didn't get a great deal done, and what I did get done took FOREVER!!!!! *wry smile*

Today, before I got out of bed, I went through my mental, "Things I am grateful for" list. I smiled to myself, and thought, "I believe I have just chosen today's filter."

Everything was easy today! Nothing had changed about my world from yesterday, all things were the same, the house was still in the same state, the work was still piled up where I left it in disgust and frustration yesterday, the cat still disliked me...nothing had changed about the physical world. What HAD changed, was the filter I was using.

So I looked at the "stuff" I had on my 'to do' list, I asked myself the "Why does this matter and why am I doing it?' question, got straight to the heart of the matter and then away I went. I chose to be grateful I had things to work on, grateful for my Derwent pencils, grateful for the computer that had given me a frustrated feeling the day before, amazingly grateful for beautiful people who believe my words have some value for them, grateful for my perspective on the world, grateful for the mess in my house which tells me I have enough "stuff" to be messy and a place to be messy in...and on it went.

While I looked through the filter of frustration yesterday, all of these things were a "problem" for me. When I changed the filter to gratitude, they all became a delight and wonder and filled my heart.

With a heart full of gratitude and the love and wonder that brings, ALL things are possible and easy.

Being strong...

One of the most difficult life lessons for me has been in those moments in time when I really should be allowing myself to show "weakness" (as I perceive it) and giving others the opportunity to help me, that I insist on "being strong."

In actual fact, this is not strong, and it's not even particularly intelligent...if it goes on too long, it is quite possibly harmful as well.

The lesson for me, is the fact that knowing my own boundaries, knowing where to draw the line in helping others and in having time for myself and my own needs is not only beneficial, but essential!!!

Knowing that I have reached the limit of what I am actually capable of doing without harm to myself, and loving and respecting myself enough to say "no, with all the love in my heart, no" is a life skill I was slow to learn, and one I am still actually working on.

There is a sense of "selfishness" and "guilt" and a whole heap of other humanly constructed emotive responses that flit across my conscious mind in these moments.

I have had to/and sometimes still have to, ask for some divine assistance in order to put a lid on the guilt, shame and sense of selfishness in order to take the time I need to do what I need to do for me and to say "no" to the people who perceive they need me.

At times, I have even gone as far as to break an agreement with another person in order to look after myself. That is, I have said I will help with this bake sale, or I will show up to that public appearance or whatever the case may be, and I have had to call and cancel. This is also very difficult for me.

The end result though is that if you continue to do things just because you said you would, because you would feel guilty or selfish if you didn't or some other form of obligation then I am not giving a gift of my time and services....only resentment can grow.

The leap of faith....

There have been some amazingly trying times within my human contract where I have found myself wondering if I had the chance for a cooling off period after I signed...I mean REALLY, who would volunteer for some of this stuff?

One of these times, is the moment of fear or indecision that comes before a really big decision, life change or choice. It happens, I am human so I have to have conversations with my brain and tell it to mind it's own business because heart is in control; I have to see at times through the eyes of comfort and fear before I come to the reality of intuition and divine guidance. I have terrible self doubt at times (I mean...I talk to angels...to most people, that's NOT normal *laugh*) and also times where I feel that life is a bit black and bleak and despite all my efforts and those of my divine team, I have to ride it out.

One of the most frightening moments is to be standing on the edge of a drop off (metaphorically) and seeing that across the chasm is the goal or aspiration where the journey continues.

What I was told/reminded of today was that I can, if I choose, just jump, I may start to fall a bit; in that moment, all I have to do is believe, have faith in myself and the divine team guiding my journey. I imagine as I am standing at the edge, that I have wings, sometimes I see them clearly and then I can take a running jump off the edge and soar across...not hard when you have wings. In those moments when I can't feel my wings and I am plagued by self doubt, fear, anger, guilt...I make the choice to jump anyway and feel them growing as I learn...

It sometimes takes courage to be great and live your choice....but as you jump off the edge of the precipice, you will feel your wings start to grow, tested by your circumstance, you find the strength you need.

Savour the light

I know I have said this before, but I am going to say it again, and again, and again *laugh* Our life, all of our lives, are designed to be joyful, bring us love and vibrant energy. THIS is what we all signed the contract for, THIS is why we are here and aside from any other purpose we feel in our soul, having joy, light and laughter is ALL of our life purposes and our birth right.

You can begin to enjoy this principle by simply savouring the joy and love you already have in your life. The rich and beautiful relationships with friends. loved ones and family. The view outside your window, the texture of the colours and the play of the light. The finer details of enjoyable conversations, day dreams and interactions. All of the things that bring joy to your life.

Give thanks for the joyful moments, savour the beauty and the wonderful moments in gratitude.

Continue to do this daily.

Make a mental catalogue of all the wonder and excitement and dwell on these moments.

Keep giving thanks, keep dwelling on the beauty.

Before too long, the beauty, the wonder and the joy increase.

Acknowledge that you have all you need

We are, each of us, born with all the knowledge we need in order to be our perfect divine selves, and to live our perfect divine life.

It is a sad shame sometimes, that along the path of living this human life, that we sometimes forget what we know, and sometimes we bury it so deep that we feel lost and confused.

This is why instead of saying, "I learnt" something, I say that I "remembered" it.

All that is required to tap into this store of remembered information is to learn to listen to the messages our body and soul send us. To follow the little impulses and instincts that each of us feel every day within every situation. Sometimes, I have been so good at burying or ignoring these messages, that it will take an event for me to remember to listen again.

It is so easy to let the business and noisiness of life get in the way; to establish routines of safety and to not operate outside them. Our brain is, of course, also adding to the confusion and attempting to add fear, guilt, shame and hatred to blur the message as well....no wonder I feel a little lost sometimes *wry smile*

All that we need in order to live the perfect and joy filled life that is our birthright, is to remember to listen...or, as the case may be, relearn how to listen...all that we need is encoded within us, all the knowledge, wisdom, experience and courage...we just have to remember.

Eternal love

So much to say about this topic, and yet, there is so much I would rather not say simply because it is a very personal and deep topic.

I spent my childhood dreaming of the love I would have and the amazingness of the "perfect man" and all that entails. I fantasised through my teenage years about being swept off my feet by a man who would love and cherish me and with whom I could share every part of me with unconditional love, respect, friendship and a sense of peace and completeness.

I am fairly sure I am telling everyone's story here...it is not until later that we find ourselves becoming a little cynical and jaded about this thing we call "love".

What I have discovered along my journey is that love, true and eternal love, actually begins with the self.

I know, not very earth shattering is it? I am sure it is not the first time you have heard this particular statement, and I bet, if this is a concept that crosses your mind regularly that you're not all that happy about hearing it again.

However, I believe it IS quite earth shattering, it is momentous, and so VERY, VERY important.

No one will love you more than you love yourself. Making an agreement with yourself, your team and your "mate" whether future or now is more important than you might think.

I read some beautiful words just recently written by a lady called, Oriah Mountain Dreamer from a text called "The Invitation" and it really solidified this concept for me. Basically it wrote an invitation, with an open and loving heart, not tinged with regrets and bitterness from past loves, to the person she wished to have in her life. It was a soulful communication to the universe, her divine team and the lover than was yet to be in her life about the way she would chose to think, be and feel in eternal love. To e, it was also an agreement to let go of past experiences, to open her heart and soul to invite the love in.

In order to have eternal love, it is first important to be willing to receive it by loving yourself.

True friends are like diamonds

When I was a teenager I heard this saying, and it has come up again and again throughout my life. Today I was reminded of it again, it goes:

"Acquaintances are like autumn leaves, plentiful.
True friends are like diamonds, rare and precious."

The message this saying gave me then, and continues to give me now is that while you may have many people around you that you see, work with and talk with, it is important every now and again to assess those relationships and to look at what they mean to you.

Relationships, whether friendships, a life partner, with family or your own children really require one key ingredient...mutual caring. We have all had people in our lives who ring up, off load all the problems of the day on you and then say, "Gee, I feel so much better now thank you" and then hang up having NEVER once asked what might be happening in our world. We have all had people we have opened up to, told our story to only to find later that they didn't really care, they were just looking for some gossip to pass on.

There are these people in the world...they exist and make these choices for themselves.

In terms of you (me) I choose relationships that bring me joy, make me laugh, sing and dance most of the time. There are times I may be the strength and wisdom, and times where I may be safely vulnerable, but mostly, there is joy and laughter.

Periodically I do a "friends check" I look to see if the relationship is one of joy and love, or whether we have moved apart and our lives consist of only mutual grief sharing. Then I make the choice to cut the chords to those people with whom my relationship is harmful (whether to me or them) and move foreword, sending them love and light and just distancing myself from close contact.

YOU get to choose the people in your life that make you happy and help you grow, choose them wisely, and remove your energy from those with whom your relationship is unhealthy.

Riding the whirlwind

This moment in time for me is a really dynamic, exciting and frenzied time. It is a moment where a million things and nothing are happening all at once. It is an awakening, a creative frenzy, a hypersensitive, emotive, uncontrolled  delightful, scary whirlwind of energy...that's just how it is right now *smile*

Please don't think I have abandoned my writing or that my irregularity means anything other than the fact that I am really and truly just going where the wind takes me in this moment and loving every minute of it.

This is a time of immense growth and transition and development, a moment where my whole perception of reality is shifting and changing to meet the needs of the new me that is emerging; so please be patient with me as I, at times, shelter in the cocoon.

I have found the times when I a the most productive and where the perfect flow of events occurs when I am not trying to control, think about or give direction to anything going on around me. The creative explosions that happen every now again, like now, are times where all of those intentions sent out to the universe collide and manifest. The only way to get it all done is for me to just go with it, and abandon myself to the joy and every thing else that goes with it.

I am in love with this moment and all else has to stand by the wayside at times for me to move through *laugh* did that even make sense?

The secret, I think, to getting everything done that I plan to get done is to just step on into the whirlwind and follow my heart.

The "No complaints" policy

Well, I feel slightly hypocritical writing this post today since I am as likely to fall into this trap as anyone else. It is however, something I am working on, and something I actively teach my students and my own children. So, while I may not be an adept at this particular skill, I do feel it is definitely worthwhile passing it on to you all *smile*

The "No complaints" policy is a commitment to yourself to avoid complaining about your life, your situation, the things people "do to" you or around you. There is healthy venting where you are able to relieve some of the pressure of unfavourable situations by "off loading" that baggage to the universe....and then there is complaining. Deep in our hearts, we ALL know the difference *laugh*

The minute you complain, you are inadvertently giving the people or situation power over you. You are tacitly agreeing to be a victim who has absolutely NO control over your life and YOUR actions, and you are agreeing that nothing can be done. You are saying to the universe, "I am powerless" and "I take no responsibility for my own choices, actions and life." Ooooops! I know that this is not what is intended when each of us opens our mouth to utter a complaint, it is however, what actually happens *sad face*

As a light worker, as a divine and miraculous being, we actually never have to be a victim, that's a choice, albeit, usually a subconscious one.

This is not to say you cannot discuss your dissatisfaction with someone or with a situation, you are not required to be a martyr either. What this means is, that we need to look for a positive way in which to express our feelings and opinions; this means not verbally attacking; this means offering solutions as well as pointing out the difficulties; this means expressing yourself with love for the people and the situations; this is speaking your truth from your heart WITHOUT judgement. The judgement I guess makes all the difference between highlighting something that requires some changes, and complaining.

I started this journey with affirmations I said to myself whenever I caught myself in the act of complaining such as:

  • I am strong and confident and I believe in my inner power to solve all issues.
  • I release my need to complain about people, places and situations.
  • I love all people for the divine within them.
I just keep repeating these for as long as it takes to remove myself from the urge to complain.

Give yourself a gift, let go of the need to criticise and complain. Instead, embrace the power to speak truth without judgement and to love all beings for the divine within them.

Wear an attitude for the day...

So a new game at school today...yep, that's right, a life lesson heading their way *smile* One of the parts of this job I love the most, the lessons learnt while I'm not even teaching! *laugh*

It was a BIG weekend in our small little town, as you may know from a post a couple of days ago, we had a massive community event. Monday today, and everyone seems really tired, snappy and irritable (myself included if I'm honest) and there were some unpleasant moments in my first class where the students had little to no patience with each other and just snapped a little.

I decided we would play a game instead of "learning", after all, it was only a 35 minute lesson, and we had already used 10 of that 'calming down'. So I asked my senior students to imagine their attitude like a suit of clothing. I dared them to put their attitude "on" and see if they could wear it all lesson no matter what. Seems easy right? Being the type of day it seemed to be, given that they were all tired, most of the students took up the challenge and decided they were going to be in a bad mood since that's where they all were anyway. They figured they had a licence then to be nasty, snappy and irritable. (Trust me when I say I had a hard time keeping a straight face at this point) My students also dared me to "try on" a mood. I told them I would go with the flow, and be in a cranky mood too. There were a few uncertain looks at this point, since some of them have had experience of what it can be like when you put Miss Roberts in a bad mood....that doesn't end well.

Dutifully, students started snapping at each other, taking little pot shots at each other, generally being mean, however, it was bordering on the ridiculous. I had to tell several of them off for laughing (after all, this was not keeping to the challenge of maintaining the mood they themselves had CHOSEN). So we carried on in this fashion for the rest of the lesson. Towards the end of the lesson, as I was once again telling someone off for "changing their mood clothing", one particular student said, "This is really hard Miss." Keeping in role, I snapped, "What is?" The student laughed at me and said, "It's really hard to stay in a bad mood when you know you have chosen to be in one."

BINGO! That was the opening I was waiting for, and they didn't let me down, gorgeous souls. *smile* We then had about a minute or two's discussion about the fact that ALL moods are a CHOICE. You can pick and choose your mood/attitude like a set of clothes. You will find, that choosing the drab, cheap fabrics of a "bad mood" soon leaves you feeling really uncomfortable and unattractive, whereas choosing the bright, soft, well made fabrics of positivity and kindness stays comfortable all day! The best part of this lesson is what I call the "gossip/tell-tale"affect. By the end of first break, everyone in the school knew about the game and were trying on their attitudes and their mood *laugh* I love it when they teach each other....SO much more effective.

Your mood is a CHOICE! You can pick the mood fabric you wrap yourself in and wear around all day.

MASSIVE times

At the moment, and I doubt I am the only one, there seems to be a massive amount of movement in the world. I am feeling a little bombarded, my days seem to speed by and I reel from one situation to the next without time to absorb anything. Then, at night, a monumental clearing effort, with my divine team working overtime to clear away all that happens during the days. Then I wake up....and do it all over again!

Times like these make me feel a little out of control, but in other ways make it easier to follow my impulses and intuitions. After all, if there is no time to stop and think about any thing, there is less chance that my brain will have time to get involved and mess everything up *smile*

While I am uncomfortable and tired, I think times like these are actually a time of "upgrading" where we are being put through basic training and will come out the other side with new understandings of the world around us and our personal situations.

So, while I do not relish these times, nor do I look forward to them, I can appreciate the efforts my team are going to to help me "upgrade" and keep me as safe as possible.

The only thing to do for me, is to honour my feelings, (if I'm tired, I go to bed, if I don't want to, then I don't, if I have to skim the surface for a while to conserve energy, then I will) and do whatever comes into my heart to do.

These times come and go, no matter what they represent or what is happening, they are only moments, and they will pass too. I am working on lettting go of the need to control everything, life is much simpler then *smile*

What's it worth to you?

There have been times when my journey along the life path I have chosen has been stalled. The excuse? "I don't have the time I need." I do so many things; I am a teacher, a mother, a healer, just me, I grow my own food, I am an artist, a sister, a house cleaner (my own that is....sometimes *smile*) all of these things, and I have definitely been guilty of doing ALL of these things BEFORE doing anything else.

Someone once commented to me, "You would need several life times to do all of the things you want to do." True, can't argue with that.

However, doing all of these different things doesn't actually prevent me from following my true life path and fulfilling the purpose for which I contracted in this life time. In theory....

What happens is, at times, I allow a lot of things to become a priority that aren't, I don't respect my own boundaries and say "no" even when I really want to, I allow other people to dictate the terms of how I spend my time, and I get suckered into procrastinating with things like looking through all the positive images on people's Facebook pages, reading a good novel, playing tetris (I really should uninstall this from my computer *laugh*) and a myriad of other, pleasant, yet distracting things.

When I find this happening, I ask myself one simple, yet effective, question, "What's it worth to you Roxanne?"

If the answer is that the particular activity I have been actively NOT doing is really important, then it is a matter of prioritising everything so that the majority of my time is spent doing that thing, whatever it may be. This includes, most importantly, time to just be me.

I wondered today actually, where the joy had gone. Sometimes, it seems not to be there because I am focusing all of my time on stuff I "should" do, rather than on stuff that brings love and joy to my heart. There HAS to be a balance between the two to my way of thinking.

Sometimes the things we think we "should" be doing are more important, why? The answer is because we are afraid of what people might say or think if we don't do them. My question to myself is the same, "What's it worth to you Roxanne?" with an amendment on this as well, "Why exactly, are you worrying about what OTHER people think or say?"

You live YOUR life in YOUR way and using YOUR priorities regardless of the opinion of others, and pretty soon you get everything done in the right order, at the right time, and also (IMPORTANTLY) maintain the joy in life too.
