If you need an example...

If you need an example of a completely uninhibited being who is very close to their divine origin, who acts from a place of love and non-judgement and who loves and enjoys life 90% of the time, then I have the perfect being for you to observe....

Look to our children!

I am constantly left in a state of wonder at the "amazingness" which is our youth. My own children (of course *grin*) and also the students I teach and the children I randomly come into contact with down the street and just walking through our daily lives.

Children do not arrive on this earth with judgement, fear, anxiety or any of those other emotions...they are taught how to see those things. They are the PERFECT example of how to be close to our divine selves.

They are intuitive, imaginative, fun loving, free and creative. They laugh, sing and play for the majority of their lives. They are fantastic at entertaining themselves even if they have "nothing" with which to do that (evidenced by the ability to make a game up with the stones in the garden, or the paper off a present). They are rarely concerned with how "embarrassing" something is, they know what they want and just go out to get it, they don't understand the concept of "impossible" either...how many little ones KNOW they can fly if they can only climb high enough? *laugh*

It is not too late for us either! So what if somewhere along the way someone or something taught us to feel fear, embarrassment, anxiety and judgement? We can just as easily abandon those feelings too.

If you want to feel a moment of pure bliss and remember what it was like to be so close to the divine within us that you can touch it....play, laugh and sing, dance, jump, run and imagine as though you are still a child.

If I could be...

When you were little, I am sure someone asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up? I am also sure you had a response of some kind…Superman, Queen of the Faeries (or was this just me??), a Princess, an Astronaut, a Lawyer, a Doctor, a Teacher…the world was yours, there were no limits, no practicalities like how you were going to afford to pay for your university degree or how you might find the faeries and marry the prince so you could be queen someday. When you were little, you just knew that’s what you would do, no questions asked, no boundaries or limitations…it just was!

What happened? When did you decide that there were limits to what you could do and be? At what point did the “world” at large teach you that you were silly to think you could be any of these things, that you were not worthy of your dreams perhaps, or that your dreams simply were not possible? When were you “forced” to see that you had been living in a fantasy and it was time to wake up and grow up?

I’d like you to play a game with me now…come on, games are fun and big people can play too… I want you to come to work with me at Imagineering Inc. (it’s a little bit like visiting the Wonka factory *smile*). As an employee at Imagineering Inc. there is a code of conduct, like all other work places; certain expectations of all employees that must be strictly adhered to!

1.       At Imagineering Inc. there are no limits and the word “impossible” is banned from use by all employees.

2.       All employees are asked to forgo the ‘unhealthy’ practice of thinking of all the reasons why a dream CANNOT work, and are asked to apply themselves to the healthy and productive task of finding the reasons why a dream WILL work.

3.       All Imagineering Inc. employees must spend time dreaming BIG dreams of their future, not tiny little “I want a bright new toothbrush” kind of dreams (although new toothbrushes ARE awesome), but great big, “I want to create a world community of people who care” kind of dreams.

4.       All employees are expected to put their dreams into writing and pin them to the wall.

5.       Finally, employees of Imagineering Inc. are asked to detect the dream stealers aongst us, and blow BIG raspberries at them, scientifically proven to dismiss dream stealers and send them back to their own offices at Igiveup Inc.

Working at Imagineering Inc. has proven highly beneficial in realising some of my more “impossible” dreams. I adhere to the code of conduct at all times when decision making about my future path and career…how about you?

Come and join part of the team here at Imagineering Inc. you’re perfect for the job, no prior experience necessary.

Magic!?

A very sad moment for me through childhood was when the adults around me, the people I trusted the most in the world, decided I was "too old" to "humour" anymore when it came to playing faeries, talking to imaginary friends and, in short, ceasing to believe in the magic that is around us. Of course, although they told me repeatedly that there was no such thing, and made statements to other adults like, "don't worry about her, she just has an overactive imagination," and things like that, I clung to my belief in miracles, magical creatures, princesses, dragons, angels and faeries!!! I'm lucky that way I guess, I refused to accept their version of reality and now, I write and illustrate children's stories about just those very things they told me weren't real and that I would have to grow out of. *big cheesy smile*

I don't know the moment for you, or the people in your lives who thought this was best for you, I do know, and have witnessed recently this moment of "squashing" for others. I also know, at some point in everyones lives, there is someone who (for their own good) attempts to inform us that what we believe and hold dear to our hearts is nothing but a product of an overactive imagination *sad face*

I say to those people, with love, compassion and forgiveness, please don't take this away from our children, let them believe, let them hope that at some point a faery has visited them in the night and sprinkled magic dust around their heads. Let our children know they are loved and protected by benevolent divine beings who walk by their side...angels ARE real!

For those of you reading this who have been inadvertently "squashed" by moments like the one I described above; I say, get a bit rebellious about it and take the magic back!!!! I love this quote from Jamie the Myth Buster, "I reject your reality and I substitute my own." Got to love his work *smile*

Angels ARE real, they love us, support us, guide us and when necessary, carry us. I believe in magic!

Anne of Green Gables

I suppose you'd be right in wondering what the title of a children's story by L.M. Montgomery might be doing as the title of this blog post! Aside from the fact that these stories come a close second to my all time favourite collection of works; there is one thing I love the most about Anne and that is, her ability to see the beauty in everything and often seek the child within.
One of the most amazing tools in keeping myself energetic and open to new opportunities is making sure I see the world, as often as I can, through the eyes of childhood.  the world was/is magic as a child, there are so many unexplained and beautiful things and just about everything is delightful. People have often stated to me that they wished they had the energy of my three year old, and the truth of the matter is, we do, we just have to tap into it *smile*

Laughing, singing, playing and "being silly" are the best possible tools for opening your eyes, energising your spirit and dispelling moments of anxiety.

It is impossible for me to remain melancholy as I join in the latest antics of my three year old. I mean, who could possibly be cranky as we sneak around the house to find hiding places to jump out and tickle Dad??? Or when we're playing rolly poly down a grassy hill??? Or making the most amazing castle from the sheets, pillows and lounge cushions???

Your mission for today? Cast back into memory for the best day you ever had as a child and replicate it. Go to the park for a swing with friends, jump in a puddle, spend the afternoon collecting coloured rocks or shells from the beach, finger paint, make mud pies, jump rope, play tiggy or hopscotch, see how fast you can run to the light pole on the corner, read an Enid Blyton book, pick field mushrooms, have a water fight...whatever you do, make it fun, laugh loudly and uproariously and have a fantastic time.
