Everything and everyone has a place...

A friend of mine sent me a joke via email a few days ago. It was statements relating to the topic of "Things that make no sense." One of the statements was "Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?"

While funny, it reminded me of a really important concept; everything and everyone in this world has it's place and has a reason for being. Since you (and me) as mortals have no knowledge of the reasons, then really, how can we judge?

To humans, mosquitoes are annoying, biting, disease carrying insects. To the mosquito, we are are source of nourishment. We don't necessarily understand the part a mosquito plays in the ecosystem or in the bigger picture. It is important though, even if it is just as a source of food for something else.

This then highlights my second thought; that everyone is fighting their own battles and has their own story be they plant, creepy critter, or human being.

When you don't know a persons story, or the battles they fight on a daily basis, how can you make a judgement about their actions? The simple answer is that you can't!

If someone is being horrible to you (and there are those people in the world) then it is possible they have their own story/battle which informs their actions. This does not make it right that they are horrible to you, nor does it excuse them for their actions. When you can understand there might be a motive for a persons actions even though you are unaware of it, well...it makes it easier to forgive them and move on with your own life.

This doesn't mean you have to "put up with" the horrible actions of another person towards you or others, and it definitely doesn't mean you have to be a helpless victim. It does mean that the power to forgive is easier and a suspension of judgement is more likely.

This gives you the power, not the person who is being horrible. Don't underestimate the power to decide, the power to suspend judgement nor the power of forgiveness. All three of these things are a gift not only to yourself, but to the world community.
