There's nothing either good nor bad, thinking makes it so...

"There's nothing either good nor bad, thinking makes it so." William Shakespeare.

This quote from William Shakespeare highlights the point about perception. The way you perceive a circumstance is the way it will be for you. If you think something that has happened is bad, then it will be. Adversely, if you think of the good that has come from it, you will see only that and it will be good.

When I first found out I was pregnant with my first child, aside from being scared out of my brain, I was worried about the response of my family. I decided for myself, that if I was carrying this child to term and keeping him, then I would make the decision for this child to be loved, cherished and precious and I would write myself a list of the characteristics I wanted to have to be a good mother. This is what I set myself to doing. My family however was a whole other story. They loved me and thought they were doing the best thing for me by advising me and telling me what they think. The statement I heard most often though was that they thought I had ruined my chances at a "good" life and a "successful" one because I was pregnant at 19 years old having only finished the first year of my degree and being unmarried as well. This is when I first thought about how the way in which you perceive a situation, is the way in which it will turn out.

My child is one of the best things that could have happened in my life and the timing was perfect really. I tried hard to match the expectations I had laid down for myself in being a good parent and I also had the motivation and commitment to return to my studies and not only finish my degree, but to get another one as well. My perception was that this child was a blessing. I had cervical cancer removed only months earlier and was told by specialists I would probably never be able to have children.  Along came this little miracle, and I was most certainly not going to knock back this divine and precious gift. Under those circumstances, who could perceive the situation as anything bad?

Things happen...they may not be what you felt you wanted or that you needed or desired at the time, however, by focusing on the good, the positive and the beautiful aspects of the situation, any situation can be turned to a positive.

Remember that the universe will act on your thoughts and give you more of what you think about the most. If you are constantly only seeing the hurtful and negative aspects of the things that happen to you, then this is what you will get more of. I could tell you plenty of stories from my life where this has been the truth, both for negative and positive thinking. I believe though, that if you delve a bit into your own stories, you will see this as a truth for you too.

The angels say, "You created this situation, and you have the power to change it." This is what they mean.

With love and light
xoxo
